Nationally-recognized caller Scott Higgs is known for his energy and enthusiasm. From Philadelphia, he has called in 25 states and 6 foreign countries. Dancers characterize Scott’s contras as “high-energy” and “swingy.” His English dance programs span from “exuberant” to “elegant.” Scott’s original choreographies have been performed and printed in anthologies across the U.S. and Europe. Many dance camps have featured Scott’s calling–including 20 years in a row at Pinewoods–and his special intensive courses for dance leaders. In addition to being Program Director for the Country Dance and Song Society (CDSS) programs at Pinewoods and Buffalo Gap, Scott has also served on the CDSS governing board.
Our Nationally known musicians are Debbie Jackson and Brad Battey from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Debbie and Brad are frequently sought out to play for dance weekends, dance camps and concerts. They most often play as a duet, but also love being ‘band anchors’ as others join in. They are topnotch workshop leaders, and dazzling contra, squares, English, swing and blues, and Scandi musicians. Individually, they have performed in Canada, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Ukraine, Slovak Republic and India. At home, they were both part of the amazing experience of setting the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Contra Line in Ann Arbor!
Fiddler Brad is also in the Ruffwater String Band, which compiled The Ruffwater Fakebook, known by music jammers everywhere as the “The pink book.”
Self-described “dance maniac,” Wendy Graham Settle (Durango, CO) leads English, American, and partner dancing, at events, weekends and week-long camps in the southwest four corners region, throughout the USA, and abroad – including England and Denmark. She proudly served on the Country Dance and Song Society (CDSS) board and is a Lifetime Contribution Award committee member. She is also a current a Lloyd Shaw Foundation board member.
